PA03.03. Effect of manjishtadi lepa in management of ankle sprain

To evaluate the effect of Manjisthadi Lepa in the Management of Ankle Sprain. To compare the effectiveness of Sheeta and Ushna Manjisthadi Lepa on Ankle Sprain.
Cases presenting with classical signs and symptoms of Ankle Sprain were selected from the outpatient and in patient department of Shalya Tantra. They were randomly allocated into two groups with 20 patients. Group - A / Sheeta Group- Sheeta Manjishtadi Lepa. Group - B / Ushna Group- Sheeta Manjishtadi Lepa. Lepa was applied twice daily for one week duration and daily assessment of the clinical parameters was done according to the proforma and weekly follow up for four weeks
Duration of one week treatment has provided significant relief with a value of 88.23% in pain, 85.71% in tenderness, 75% in swelling, 100% in loss of function and 100% in discoloration. 100% result is obtained in the movements of joint as dorsiflexion, plantarflexion, adduction, abduction, inversion and eversion after the application of Sheeta Manjisthadi Lepa. After the application of Ushna Manjisthadi Lepa pain reduced by 91.17%, tenderness by 86.%, swelling by 76.4%, loss of function by, discoloration and movements of the joints by 100% with P< 0.001 in both groups. On the second follow up only 100% relief was noted in all the parameters in both the groups.
Group A / Sheeta group patients showed better improvement in the initial days of treatment i.e. in conditions of Acute Ankle Sprain, where as in Group B/Ushna group showed better improvement in later stage i.e. in Chronic Ankle Sprain. Complete remission was seen in 75% of patients, marked improvement in 17.5%, moderate improvement in 7% and no patient showed unchanged results after one week treatment.
